THE ALBATROSS
Formerly: The Underbelly
Capacity: 500
Underbelly open: 2013
Albatross open: April 15, 2025
Website: thealbatrossjax.com
Address: 113 E Bay St, Jacksonville, FL 32202
Originally opened as Underbelly in 2013, the venue, under new management re-branded as The Albatross.
Joywave, originally booked at Underbelly, but when they showed up to play on May 16, 2025, the venue's name was changed to Albatross, causing confusions to the band and the audience.
This venue is located on the same block of The Florida Theatre (I walk past it) and very close to Decca Live. Decca Live lists 1,000 capacity, but I believe this number includes the second floor and roof… to me it felt like they were closer to Albatross (despite the fact that they only list 500 standing). I would compare this venue to the Amsterdam Bar & Hall in St Paul. The Amsterdam is a little deceiving… it’s much larger than you think because the venue is divided in half (a stage area and a separate bar/restaurant area).
The Albatross, under the name Underbelly, lists as a smoked BBQ restaurant – so I’m not sure if the restaurant area was closed off to me, but the area I was at only had a stage, dancefloor (with four columns that blocked view), and a bar area on the right-side. The left-side were band merchandise.

BIER HALL
AKA: Intuition Ale Works, Bier Hall at Intuition
Capacity: 300 (standing), 150 (seated)
Intuition open: 2016
Bier Hall open: 2019
Website: intuitionaleworks.com
Address: 929 E Bay St Jacksonville, FL
The popular Intuition Ale Works opened in 2016, and they wanted to host concerts at the new brewery, so the company decided to covert a 6,000 square feet area to create The Bier Hall at Intuition.
If you’re not from the area, the Bier Hall is located along the St Johns River in downtown Jacksonville. To the East is the Everbank Stadium and Daily’s Place and to the West is the Florida Theatre and Decca Live.
The Bier Hall isn’t the most exciting room, but it’s spacious with four small columns and a five-foot stage and a low-hanging tiny disco ball. It’s actually a good space for dancing and moving around. To the north, near the entrance is the bar, and there are chairs and beer barrels (serving as tables for your drinks) all along the side of the building.

JACK RABBITS
AKA: Jax Rabbits
Capacity: 300
Open: 1999
Website: jaxlive.com
Address: 1528 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207
Jack Rabbits is a hole-in-the-wall bar, in the San Marco area (you have to cross the river from downtown Jacksonville). The walls and doors outside is painted white with the words “Jack Rabbits”.
Once inside, there is a bar on the right side and the stage on the left side. It feels like the 7th Street Entry, only slightly larger (Jack Rabbits capacity is listed at 300 persons)… but with similar disgusting bathrooms. There are seats and tables, and on the left side of the walls, a riser – where you can sit (and assuming stand if it is too crowded).

DAILY'S PLACE
Capacity: 5,500 seated
Open: May 27, 2017
Website: dailysplace.com
Address: 1 Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, FL 32202
Daily’s Place (named after a local convenience store chain), I’ll describe the venue. This is a very large amphitheater, with a capacity of 5,500, in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. What is cool about it, is that it shares spaces with the EverBank Stadium, so technically two events could be taking place at the same time – yet access to food vendors and stores are shared within that space between the two venues. Since 2019, the amphitheater has become nationally known as the home of All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
As of June 2025, it would appear that there was on-going construction around the stadium, and with multiple events happening in the Sports Complex, that getting to Daily’s Place, and my unfamiliar with where the box office was, it proved to be somewhat of an effort for me. I think next time, I’ll be more familiar with how to proceed and where to park.

PONTE VEDRA CONCERT HALL
Capacity: 1,100 Standing / 615 Seated
Open: Feb 2013
Closed to Renovation: April 25, 2024
Re-Opened: August 1, 2025
Website: pvconcerthall.com
Address: 1050 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32082
Ponte Vedra Beach is a small city about 45 minutes (on paper) southeast of Jacksonville (and just south of Jacksonville Beach). From my drive, it’s closer to an hour due to traffic congestion, road constructions, slow drivers (I’m one of them!), or coastal flooding…
Once within the Ponte Vedra Beach city, there are plenty of commerce / retail stores north of town. You take a long, scenic slow drive on a main road that’s literally called the Scenic Road that leads to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. If you continue on this road, it will lead you to St Augustine, so now you understand the layout of where this city is located.
The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is quite a beautiful building. It was originally a Baptist church that found life in the ‘80s, but was repurposed as a concert hall in 2013. They booked a lot of bands throughout the years, but when I moved to Jacksonville, the venue wasn’t active because of renovations. After pouring in $12.9 million dollars, and after a long 14-month shut down, the venue was overjoyed to re-open the venue on August 1, 2025 with Grammy Award-winning artist Dan Tyminski.
What I really like about the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall was that it was really designed for a viewing experience. You have the standing / dance floor (with no blocking columns or obstructions), and behind the FOH (Front of House) is the Soundboard. Behind the Soundboard are stadium seating, so fans, who don’t want to stand, can sit and enjoy the show. There are also two side balcony seating. Bathrooms are well lit and just outside of the standing room. The bars are also outside the standing room with optional doors to close (so their lights and noise won’t distract the audience or performer). If you don’t want to watch the show, you can sit outside or hang out on the second floor. It’s really well designed.
I think the venue had to make sound (a new million-dollar sound system) and view and atmosphere (and friendliness!) to appeal to concert goers, because it really is an effort to make the long drive to the venue, which a staffer confessed to me, “we’re in the middle of nowhere”. Based on the sold-out show, fans are willing to happily make that long drive commitment.

FLORIDA THEATRE
Capacity: 1,900
Open: April 1927
Website: floridatheatre.com
Address: 128 E Forsyth St #300, Jacksonville, FL 32202
The Florida Theatre is the only historic palaces in Jacksonville, and one of five in all of Florida (the others are located in Miami, Pensacola, Lakeland and Tampa). It’s very similar to other historic theatres of this size (capacity is 1,900) with a very high ceiling and second floor viewing and balcony. For Minneapolis comparison, it looks like the Orpheum or State Theatre in Minneapolis.
Staff were friendly with plenty of ushers showing you to your seats. They’re also not as strict when it comes to audience filming or taking photos (although it certainly depends on the shows and requirements from the performing bands). I did spot a security person asking some dancing fans to go to their assigned seats, but this is more to keep the aisle clear.
Florida Theatre’s president Numa Saisselin mentioned that the venue was completely independent (meaning not booked by Live Nation) and that all booking and processing are done inhouse (so they can pass the savings to ticket buyers).
